A Gamer Points out a Plot Hole in The Last of Us Part 1
When playing The Last of Us, a player discovers a small detail in the skybox of the game that appears out of place within the rest of its apocalyptic world. It’s a minor discrepancy in the game that stands out like a sore thumb for such a game that is known for its attention to detail in its devastated world.
A Commercial Airliner in the Game?
A player of the game posted a screenshot that appears to show the jet stream of a commercial airliner in the distance. Given that society disintegrated decades before the game events, the inclusion of a jet flying overhead is inconsistent with the game’s storyline. Even though some users attempted to rationalize the UFO as a probable FEDRA reconnaissance flight, others pointed out that the jet stream’s distance and shape could only be produced by a big commercial airliner. Many gamers speculated how this detail escaped Naughty Dog’s notice, and one user even suggested that the sky box from Uncharted 4 was recycled for The Last of Us Part 1 remake.
Even though it has been three years since the release of The Last of Us 2 in 2020, Naughty Dog Studios’ flagship franchise is having a resurgence in popularity. Between the HBO series that was released in January 2023 and Part 1 of the remake that premiered in September 2022, Naughty Dog’s unique fungal take on a zombie apocalypse is gaining new fans daily. The PC port of the game will be released in March 2023, and The Last of Us 2 Factions multiplayer mode is currently under development.
The Last of Us Is Still Good!
In a way, seemingly breaking the immersion, the user highlights how impressive the overall package of The Last of Us and The Last of Us 2 truly is. Because of the game world’s and characters’ loving attention to detail, discerning fans must dig deep to find any criticism. Neither game is perfect, but they are regarded by some as high watermarks in visual design and nuanced storytelling.
